DRESS CODE

Alamitos Intermediate School’s administration and faculty believe that appropriate dress contributes to a productive learning environment. Students are expected to attend school in clothes that are neat, clean, safe and appropriate for school activities. Parents and students are encouraged to work together to ensure that our students have a school environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Any change to physical appearance that is determined to distract from the learning environment will be prohibited at Alamitos. The following rules apply during the school day and at all school sponsored activities.

1. Items of clothing which depict or refer to gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco or obscenities will not be allowed.

2. Students may not wear initial belt buckles, dangling belts, or wallet chains.

3. Girls should wear clothing that is modest and does not show undergarments. Bare midriff tops and tops worn off the shoulder are not allowed. Tops should be long enough to cover the midriff when arms are raised. Skirts and shorts should be an appropriate length and not too tight. Skirts and shorts must be longer than the tip of your fingers when your arms are at your side. No spaghetti straps. (Straps should be wider than one inch.)

4. Underwear, loungewear or sleepwear style garments are not appropriate for school.

5. Pants and shorts must fit correctly around the waist with no alterations. Pants worn below the hip are not allowed. The legs of the pants and shorts must not be excessively baggy in the opinion of the school administration. All hems must be sewn with no cut or frayed edges. Pants may not drag on the ground. If shorts are worn beneath the knee, socks cannot come up to the knee.

6. Hats will only be worn to block the sun. The parent must sign a request for a hat to be worn on campus. Only Alamitos Intermediate hats will be permitted. Hats may not be worn in any classroom.

7. Flip flops, slippers or open back shoes are not to be worn. All shoes must have a back or back strap. Shoes MUST be worn on school grounds at all times. Tennis shoes are highly recommended. (Board Policy 5160)

8. Hair must be of naturally occurring colors, neat, clean and well groomed. Hair style/s deemed disruptive to the educational environment, will not be permitted.

9. No bandanas, hair nets or gloves are to be worn on campus.

10. Piercing or body rings, other than earrings are not acceptable.

IF ANY OF THESE ITEMS IS WORN, STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO CHANGE INTO P.E. SHIRTS, SHORTS AND/OR TENNIS SHOES. STUDENTS MAY BE SENT HOME TO CHANGE IMPROPER CLOTHES. REPEATED DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
